Are you pregnant and wanting to prepare your body and mind for labour and birthing your baby?
Birth affirmations are a powerful way to re-program your mind leading up to and during labour. Birth affirmations are positive phrases or statements that you repeat to yourself while you’re in a calm, relaxed and meditative state during pregnancy or during labour.
Generally affirmations are based on the law of attraction, the concept of ‘you become or receive what you think about most’. Affirmations are used to manifest goals, dreams or experiences you desire including what sort of labour and birth outcome you would like to have.
If you are following any birth preparation program such as Hypnobirthing or Calm Birthing, these affirmations can be included as part of your birth preparation.
What to do
During pregnancy, I recommend choosing 5 to 10 affirmations at a time to focus on in each daily session.
Find somewhere to sit or lie down in a quiet a room, or while you’re in the bath, play some soft gentle music in the background and light a candle if it’s dark and repeat each affirmation 10 times each, slowly and purposefully.
At the end of each set of affirmations finish with ‘All these things I wish for, now manifest themselves for me in perfectly satisfying and harmonious ways‘.
Also include some visualizations as you say each affirmation where you picture in your mind the kind of birth you would like to have, right from the moment your contractions start through to holding your baby in your arms at the end.
What you believe, you receive!
During labour you can use a recorded MP3 affirmation track that you can play to yourself or repeat affirmations to yourself from a written script in your birth book.
I will also record some and put them up on my YouTube channel.
Affirmations can be a welcome distraction and a way to refocus your mind and get it into a more positive state during labour and birthing.
